One Last February Weekend

Guys, I hope your weekend did not start out like ours… with a call from our renters that the basement was flooding?! I cannot even tell you all the things that have gone wrong at our old house since we moved out but it has sort of been a nightmare. Ugh. Anyway, other than that snafu, we had a pretty good weekend and it felt good to say “so long” to February in a happy way. I can’t wait for March and April and May!

Starting Friday with a bright-eyed baby and an almond scone from my mom. The best! My sis came over that afternoon to spend some time with her nephew and got to witness first hand how frustrating it is when he won’t nap. Joey was running all over trying to get the flooded basement taken care of at the rental, so our dinner plans kind of fell by the wayside. But after I put Dempsey to bed, we re-grouped with cocktails and Minari. What a moving film! It was sad and funny and really beautiful to look at. I loved it!

Sometimes we wake up in the morning and can hear Dempsey wiggling around and talking to himself in his bassinet and we always wonder just how long he’s been awake in there! We all cuddled in bed for a good while but then I started getting antsy to make breakfast. I cannot wait until he can stay awake for longer periods of time. His “wake window” always goes by too fast, so I was rushing to get breakfast made before his first nap. I didn’t make it but luckily, Joey got him down real fast and we didn’t have to re-heat any pancakes 🙂 Ricotta pancakes are the best! We had a family Zoom call at 9 and thought it was sad Dempsey would be missing it, but then he woke back up, so we let him join the call before putting him back down. It was really nice to “see” everyone. It’s been SO long since we were all together.

Our pediatrician gave us the okay to get a floor seat for Dempsey, so we picked one out at Target then headed over to pick it up. It was my first time experiencing the Target drive up — Joey has been making use of it about once a week! — and I think it took all of 30 seconds, so I was impressed! Back at home, Dempsey was subjected to kisses and selfies and then I did a quick treadmill work out, while Joey set up his chair. He seems to enjoy it!

Friday night plans relocated to Saturday! We had some frozen wontons and dumplings from Yuan Wonton to cook and decided to round out the meal with a couple of apps from Ginger Pig. It was all so good! We definitely did not finish those wontons or dumplings though and we still have MORE in the freezer, eek! Oh and Joey got a sake juicebox and it was STRONG. We put the baby to bed and watched Training Day because I’d never seen it and it was one of the suggestions on the homescreen of Netflix or maybe HBO Max? I don’t know guys, felt just a little bit dated? I think it was supposed to be a surprise that Denzel was the bad guy in the end but… he seemed like the bad guy the whole time! He sure was in the zone though!!!

Sunday was a laid back day. I definitely forgot to take a picture of our breakfast but we got sandwiches and a chocolate cruffin from Wooden Spoon and it was all very very good! We also worked in SNL and Sunday chores in between naps and later on, Joey forced me to “watch” (I was mostly looking at my phone) The Prom, which was… terrible. Remember last year when we made Ram-Don for the Oscars in tribute to Parasite? Well we still had some ramen packets left over, so we made it again for the Golden Globes! It’s just very easy and very good, okay? Dempsey got to stay up and watch the beginning of the ceremony. He also thought they did Daniel Kaluuya dirty! He went to sleep SO EASY afterward, so more of that please. Later on, we made rosemary parmesan popcorn and ate just so much of it. Yes, the telecast was sort of a mess but I love an awards show, messy or not. Plus we got to see all those celebs’ houses and I have to say, PLEASE ADOPT ME, BILL MURRAY, because that house looked NICE. I was very very happy to see Nomadland recognized and it was all I could do not to cry when Lee Isaac Chung’s daughter wrapped him in that hug and said “I prayed, I prayed!” In conclusion, Jane Fonda forever!

Happy March!
